Bridal and honeymoon lingerie: how to choose without a fitting room

Updated: 05.11.2026

In short: Choose your wedding-day lingerie by the dress first (neckline, back and fabric), then by comfort for a long day. Pick honeymoon sets by what makes you feel good, in your true measured size. Order early, check the store's return page, and see each set on your own photo with AnyTry try-on before you buy.

Two jobs, two kinds of lingerie

Bridal lingerie usually means two different things: - Wedding-day underwear. It sits under the dress for 10+ hours. It must be invisible, smooth and comfortable. - Honeymoon lingerie. It is meant to be seen. Style and how you feel in it matter most.

Plan them separately. One set rarely does both jobs well.

Wedding day: start with the dress

Match the bra to the neckline and back of your gown: - Strapless or sweetheart: a strapless bra with silicone grip, or a longline bustier for more support. - Low back: a low-back bra, a plunge bodysuit with a low back, or built-in cups sewn into the dress. - Deep V: a plunge bra or adhesive cups. - Off-shoulder: strapless bra or a bra with removable straps. - Fitted satin or crepe: seamless, laser-cut panties in a tone close to your skin. Lace can show through.

Tips: - Skin-tone shades hide better under white than white does. - Bring the bra to your dress fittings. Your tailor can adjust the fit around it. - Wear it at home for a few hours before the day.

Honeymoon: pick what feels like you

Popular styles and who tends to love them: - Bralette + high-waist brief: soft, easy, no wires. Great for comfort lovers. - Babydoll: loose and flowy, flattering on many body shapes. - Teddy or bodysuit: one piece, smooth lines, can double as a top. - Balconette set: lift and a classic shape. - Robe or kimono: easy to add over any set, nice for photos and mornings.

Fabrics that work

- Lace: classic and romantic. Look for soft "stretch lace" so it does not scratch. - Silk or satin: smooth and cool. Good for slips and robes. - Mesh and tulle: light and sheer, good in warm destinations. - Microfiber: best for invisible wedding-day underwear.

Avoid stiff lace and heavy beading in places that rub, like the band and leg openings.

Get the size right online

A try-on photo shows cut, color and coverage. It does not show exact size. For size: 1. Measure your underbust and bust. See our bra size guide. 2. Use the brand's own size chart, not your usual size. 3. Read reviews for "runs small" or "no support". 4. Between sizes? Many brands suggest sizing up in the band for long wear.

Timing and returns

- Order wedding-day bras 6–8 weeks before your final fitting. - Order honeymoon sets 3–4 weeks ahead, so you have time to swap. - Many stores treat swimwear and lingerie as final sale or only accept returns with hygiene liner and tags. Check the store's return page before you order.

FAQ

What color bra should I wear under a white wedding dress? A shade close to your skin tone usually hides best. Bright white can show through thin fabric.

When should I buy bridal lingerie?

Get wedding-day underwear before your dress fittings, about 6–8 weeks out. Honeymoon sets can wait until 3–4 weeks before.

Can I return lingerie bought online?

Often only unworn, with tags and hygiene liner, and some stores do not accept returns at all. Check the store's return page.

Will a virtual try-on show my bra size?

No. It shows how the cut, color and coverage look on you. Use your measurements and the brand chart for size.
